The festival’s work-in-progress and coming-soon film project market was launched in 2016 in co-operation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and the National Film Centre of Latvia when it featured project presentations from Latvia and the neighbouring region with a special focus on projects for children. In 2017 the FORUM is again focusing on feature length projects devised for a children’s audience and gathering those interested in the genre.
PITCHING SESSION 2017: FEATURE-LENGTH FILM PROJECTS FOR CHILDREN
The festival is looking for feature-length live-action and/or animation projects intended for children’s audiences from around the world. The session’s attendance is planned to include buyers, distributors and producers from the region that either specialize or partly specialize in children’s films.
WORK TOGETHER WITH THE AUDIENCE!: WORKSHOPS WITH CHILDREN AND FILM-MAKERS
Selected projects participating in the FORUM are also invited to submit their projects for evaluation and hands-on practical work together with their audience. The festival is launching a project with children’s creative educators to engage in a collaboration beyond mere audience testing.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: FILMS IN LATVIA 2017
A special show-case designed to paint a comprehensive picture of what’s coming soon and what is in the works in the country. The presentation will also include an overview of the opportunities of shooting in Latvia and local service capabilities.
LECTURES & DISCUSSIONS
The FORUM will facilitate lectures and panels on and beyond children’s film. Specific themes and speakers are yet to be announced.
In 2016 the festival launched a new pan-Baltic educational platform intended for professionals and aspiring film-makers alike to develop better relationships between different disciplines within film-making. In 2017 it shall focus on two separate yet related relationships within film-making...
THE ANIMATED FILM DIRECTOR & THE VOICE-OVER ARTIST
Students and aspiring film-makers – animation film directors and actors – in a set of practical training and individual work will test their knowledge in creating an original character voice for animated film. Workshops will be followed by open lectures and industry Q&A’s.
THE DIRECTOR & THE MUSIC COMPOSER
Baltic film directors and music producers – both practicing and aspiring – gather for an in-depth case study of innovative work in the field as well as a public lecture on trends and a pan-Baltic networking hub.
This will be the fourth year of this networking event where directors and producers meet their potential collaborators – screenwriters, script consultants and editors, new relationships are struck, projects are launched and developed. For a wider attendance the ESM features seminars, talks and workshops on creating and developing screenplays for an international audience.

Every year the festival focuses on a different group of film professionals to jump-start networking and collaboration in the region. This year it is planned to gather location managers and scouts.
A meet-up and discussion platform for Latvian film criticism professionals as well as students and enthusiasts featuring international lecturers and guests.
