Riga IFF Founder/President
Seeing a film has always been a special experience for me. It’s like a world to dive in to and experience something emotionally different each time. In a festival this experience is lifted to another level – it’s a chance to meet the creators of these different worlds, a chance to take part in the birth of one of these worlds. In a festival, a movie continues long after the last credits have rolled and the lights in the auditorium have come up.
Riga IFF Artistic director
The visitors of the festival will probably never realize how much I worry as I watch the audience react to a film, and how great is my satisfaction to see that a film has met its viewers.
Riga IFF Director
My greatest joy is to create an event that sparks a connection. I long to witness a storyteller meet their audience, a film meet it’s viewer, to be witness to an audience truly experience the act of art in a cinema hall. I want laughter, I want tears, I want there to be a communication between different people and little bit more kindness to come in to this world.
KIDS WEEKEND curator
A person’s understanding of cinema is mainly created by the films they watched in their childhood. A festival’s task is to make sure that this experience is as good, as unforgettable and as positive as possible – illuminating the art of cinema as the imaginative and horizon-expanding wonder-world that it truly is.
SHORT RIGA curator
A short film is a form whose task is to carry away the viewer from the first seconds and then, in the following minutes, feed with stories that will not let them go for at least a few weeks. My team’s and my own joy is to be able to find such wonders in the world, as well as bring young talents from the Baltics into the international spotlight.
The tenth Artdocfest in Russia will take place under the slogan “In Place of Freedom”. In Riga we want to look into the future, because for us today Latvia is already a place for freedom!
Riga IFF Industry events curator
Cinema is a sport for heavyweights and Riga IFF is an inspirational point of departure in to each of its disciplines – from a tense start through to a demanding run right up to the victorious finish.
Head of Riga IFF Communication department
I had a conversation yesterday on how we misinterpret the phenomenon of a “recognized” brand or a name. The point is so often not about whether you’re recognized but what are you recognized for – the notion of quality over that of quantity. The challenge for this team is the fact that we’re a category unto ourselves, we’re not a festivity among many events in Latvia, we’re the Riga IFF – the name and category all in one abbreviation.
